Ernie founded his own racing team, Gonella Competición in 1987. In 2019, he started Gonella Racing with the same passion and vigour he has carried throughout his career.

The Gonella Racing team, headed up by Ernie, consists of multiple engineers, mechanics and a crew chief and have three racing drivers they look after, including Carl.
